Week 6 post !

We have accomplished a lot for our project this week! We have reached out to Dr. West, head of the lower school, about our fundraiser for the lower school and middle school students. He has worked with people in the past with genius hour so he knows how it works! We will continue talking to him about the details for our fundraiser and hopefully set a date by next week! We have also reached out to Mr. Flegal, the dean of upper school students, about our bake sale but he has yet to respond. We were planning on hosting our bake sale this Thursday, but since Mr. Flegal has yet to respond that will have to be postponed to a later date, hopefully next week! Although Mr. Flegal is a busy man, this week we will continue to reach out and get a date set for the bake sale by next week. Make sure to check in next week and mark your calenders!

How Genius Hour Project Helps Us Stand Out to Colleges & Shape Your Life Plan? (peyton)

Rachel and I’s genius hour project will definitely stand out to colleges and shape both of our lives tremendously. Our project focuses on one main point, which is to help others through service. This will show to the colleges around the world that we are both kind, caring, passionate about others and how we can change their lives to become better. Our project helps the people in need have better supplies, food, and clothing. All of these things are essential in an everyday lifestyle. We will be hosting a couple of fundraisers before spring break trying to reach our coal of $1000 to send to the families living in St. Mary’s Perish, Jamaica. Our project is an eye-opener to the real world because it shows colleges how easy it is for a high school student to do a few kind and simple acts that can change people’s lives forever. Rachel and I hope to also have numerous bake sales before spring break to add additional money to the money going towards the families in Jamaica. We both hope to create fun events for lower and middle school students within our local community at school that will benefit and change our lives as well, while at the same time, help those in need in different countries than ours. Our events will consist of exciting games, music, dancing, and just a fun time to sit back and have a good time. Our genius hour project will most definetly shape my life plan because I hope when I become older to help others around the world. And this is the small but mighty start to a wonderful future. :)

Week 4 Post !

As we start looking for colleges it is important that we try to set ourselves apart from the normal person because it is extremely important to stick out from the norm. Last spring Peyton and I both went on a mission trip to Jamaica through our school. This trip changed both of our lives and showed us how thankful we should be for everything we have. When we returned we both felt called to help the impoverished people of Jamaica because they don't have everything they need to support there families. We wanted to help contribute in any way we could, so we decided to raise money for ACE ministries. Colleges these days are extremely difficult to get into and they look for originality when applying. Genius hour has given us the opportunity to help while also helping stick out to colleges. We have been able to devote a whole class period each week to help our project become a reality. Genius hour helps us stick out to colleges because it opens a door of creativity and originality in which other students don't have.

Week 5 Post !

Rachel and I both accomplished many of our goals this week. We have further advanced in our research with our fundraisers and donations to American Experience Caribbean (ACE) Ministries with one of our mentors, Coach Albright. This week, we have talked to one of our own teachers at our school to help and enlighten us on our overall project.  Coach Albright is one of our Spiritual Leaders at our school (Franklin Road Academy) who has gave us advice on how to improve and help our ideas for fundraising these events. As of right now, we are currently trying to reach out to our partners in Jamaica to help coordinate and give us some good and fun ideas for our events we will be hosting this spring. Next week we plan to start planning our money budgets for all the supplies we will need for these events. Hope to hear from you all this upcoming week!
